The Carney brothers
Yoogali,
New South Wales
“Gemelli” is Italian for twins, and two of us are. James and Alec are identical twins who grew up in the kitchen together; Paul is the older brother. Three of us, one upbringing, the same passion.
We grew up in Yoogali in regional New South Wales, strict Italian origins, where you learned three things early: how to look after people, how to make food by hand, and how to buy good produce. Sauce and salami days, a glass of wine with family and friends. The twins were cooking side by side before they were tall enough to see over the bench, and the way they were taught to do it, by hand, from scratch, is the way every Gemelli kitchen still does it. Italian culture was never far from the table.
It started with one room in Broadbeach in 2013. Then Gemellini at Nobby Beach in 2016, Roy's at Sorrento, James Street in Brisbane in 2021, Papa Rolly's at Carrara, and the gelato shop at Nobby. Six venues later, the brief hasn't changed: fresh pasta every morning, proper woodfired pizza, and people looked after properly.
Grazie mille for dining with us.
